Total Joint Replacement Surgery

My Professional Philosophy

To take time to understand each one of my patient’s unique concerns and goals.  Educating patients about their Orthopaedic condition helps them to assume a more active role in their recovery and to make more informed decisions about treatment options.  I strive to provide compassionate musculoskeletal care with a high level of technical skill and knowledge.

What is a Total Joint Replacement Surgeon?

An Orthopaedic Surgeon who has additional training in routine and complex primary and revision joint replacement surgery of knees, hips, shoulders, and elbows through an accredited one-year fellowship (subspecialty) program.

After finishing my Orthopaedic Surgery residency, I completed a Joint Replacement fellowship and began practice in 1999. Continuing education is important to staying current with evolving technologies such as minimally invasive joint replacement techniques, use of newer implant materials, and computer-assisted surgery.

What types of Problems do Joint Replacement Surgeons Commonly Treat?

Joint Replacement Surgeons treat a wide variety of degenerative and traumatic conditions of the knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow.  Nonoperative treatment is offered first, including medications, physical therapy, and joint injections.  Alternatives to surgery are always presented in attempt to maintain lifestyle and function.

When surgery is indicated, modern techniques and implants are used so that recovery can be accelerated and the patient can enjoy a well-functioning, pain-free joint for many years.  I also have special interest and training in the treatment of failed joint replacements using reconstructive / revision surgical techniques.

Do Joint Replacement Surgeons Treat General Orthopaedic Problems?

Yes.  The foundation of my postgraduate medical training was based on education in all aspects of musculoskeletal medicine, both surgical and non-surgical.  Some common general orthopaedic conditions that I treat include:

  • Athletic and traumatic injuries of ligaments and tendons
  • State-of-the-art arthroscopic repair of shoulder and knee injuries
  • Fracture care, both surgical and non-surgical
